There had to be a noise band for the Winter Commission. Following in the steps of WC1’s Tokonoma, Grandpa Wheelchair was formed to bring some improvised music to the proceedings. The band consisted of Luke Chmura, Mark Detrick, Amanda Kalkwarf, Jubal Sather and myself. Evan Bridges created a crazy improvised video performance which somehow integrated live and archival footage to create a video collage.
Next up, the awesomely-well-choreographed performance of Banana Splitz, a new dance troupe in Bellingham consisting of Kelly Björk, Brenda Brown and Lenae Day. Banana Splitz opened the Winter Commission and set the quality bar for the rest of the evening.
For this Second Annual Winter Commission, we were fortunate to receive two performances from a noted yogi from Yelm, WA, Sri Craven Bla. His first presentation, The Hoffbrenner Principle: Why Time was Wrong, Again was an introspective look into the life and legacy of noted figure Czeslaw Hoffbrenner, the pioneer in metaphysical branding:
Another great performance from the Winter Commission: A new band, created just for the event, consisting of Mark Detrick on guitar, Kat Bula on violin, Anna Arvan on cello, and Erik Wallace on drums: Camp Meeting.
